Were Dick and I became best of friends. I have Great memories of Dick teaching me how to bowl and play pool while I was growing up. Visiting him in California on a family trip, and every time he made it to Dallas area on his traveling trips. He will be truly missed, but never that great humor, grin, and smile with his head half cocked and saying, "Watch this!".

Burdette Wright
                                                        IN MEMORY OF BURDETTE WRIGHT
                                                           December 29, 1921 to August 5, 2010

I met Burdette on thanksgiving Day 1998. I was invited for thanksgiving dinner to meet the family that I would be part of in the next two years. Everyone greeted me at the door with hugs and smiles of welcome. From that day on I felt so much a part of the family and felt so loved. That day in November started a beautiful journey for me. Each and every time I visited, I was greeted with hugs and smiles and words like, "It's good to see you", "I love you too", and "Take care of that fella there." That fella is my husband, Michael, and the person saying those words to me was Burdette. How could you not love this wonderful man?

Burdette was one of those gentile giants. So kind to everyone he met, so caring and giving even to the smallest of God's creatures. He loved the rabbits, ground and tree squirrels and all feathered friends. He loved to feed them all and would watch out the window to see them come and go. That was his reality TV. Burdette was a farmer and so enjoyed the out-of-doors. A big garden was a summertime must. He enjoyed seeing things grow. The harvest of tomatoes, cucumbers and vegetables was a sharing time with family and friends.

Burdette was a humble man, not wanting for material things. He delighted in giving to others, especially his family. He enjoyed doing word puzzles and would let me help him solve some. Although he knew the answers, he would let me figure out so many entries and on completion of one puzzle after another, he would say "I couldn't have done it without you." I knew different, he was so wise, quick witted, so good at building you up, always making you feel good about yourself. Picture puzzles were another hobby that he would lay out and work on.  When I came to visit he enjoyed working on them with me. He had a good eye and knew where every piece went, like a carpenter building a house, he would measure the outside to make sure that each side and corner piece was in the right place.

Burdette was one of an elite group, "The greatest Generation", a veteran of WWII. He was a life member of the Lakeview Hough/Pontius VFW Post 3701 and very proud of it. He told stories of his time in the Army during WWII. Always a funny tale of things he did or saw. He never talked about the bad elements of war.

I feel so honored to have shared twelve wonderful years in this family and with this very special giving, caring and loving person. I was privileged to share in his final hours, to witness his bravery again as a good soldier, as he carried the burden of death so courageously, and slipped so silently into eternity. I loved this man, as I know so many others did also. He leaves a great void. One that cannot be filled by mere mortal man. I will miss his smile, his laugh that made you laugh along with him. He will be missed.

With much love and respect,
Your daughter-in-law Fran and "That fella there," Michael

When I look in the mirror I see my father in me. Little did I realize that when I became an adult he would have had such a profound impact on my life. My father was a great provider. He worked well into the night everyday so his family of seven would never go without. My father sacrificed his dreams and aspirations thruout his life so his wife and children could secure theirs.  When I look in the mirror I see that I have become the man that I looked up to for so many years and I am very sorry that I never took the time to thank him.
I will miss you Dad.

      Reflections
I look into the mirror
When I stare real long I see
The reflection of you there
Standing next to me.
The sadness in my heart
Is softened ever so much
By the memory of your laughter
And your not so gentle touch.
Fond memories that I have....
You playing air guitar with a chair
Though you were only yards away
A New Years eve you were not there.
There is no answer good enough
To accept the loss of you
I wait for empty words....
He had greater things to do.
I will continue forward
Though it is with heavy heart
Your family needs me now
Oh God...Where do I start
The road of life is rough
And treacherous along the way
No one saw this coming
Oh my, what a long...long day.
Dedicated to Don

"I miss you, I miss your smile, and I still shed a tear every once in a while, and even though it's different now, your still here somehow, but I can't let you go, and I need you to know I miss you, sha-la-la-la-la, i miss you!I know your in a better place in the memorey of Jehovah God. I can't wait until the paradise when I'll see you again, and be able to run up to you and give you a kiss and tell you all thats happened over the time you've been gone and tell you how much I've missed you and glad your back in my arms where you were always meant to be.I can't wait until your back , and we can go to Lake Michigan, Lighthouse Park, and all the other places we used to go. I love you so much, and all of our family does too, i wish you could understand how hard it was to live without you, and how much we misse, cried, and loved you.It was hard to imagine life without you, and now we know what it's like, it hurts but it's better than seeing you suffer and knowing that soon Jehovah will awaken you and restore you to a knew and perfect body!I will always remember your smile, love, hugs, and laugh, they were what i needed to remember... I can't wait until we can return to Manistee and remind you of all we used to do and what we will be able to do in the paradise forever!I love you so much and wish you could know that!! With more love than you can imagine,
Your Dearest Granddaughter Baleigh Novak

At this most difficult time, I would like to send my sincere condolences. I didn't know Chris that well, but took great notice of him as he grew up. He impressed me with his respect of others and his love of his family. His unselfishness carried him in his belief that he was here to help others. He proved that on the day he took on a situation where his only concern was the safety of the young children whose lives he thought were in danger. The greatest love. Chris had that. He has my utmost respect and I hope he will be praying for all of us now.

There are many sweet memories of my Aunt Virginia. She was always loving and kind to me. I especially remember a beautiful red dress she bought me as a child. It is odd how those little kindnesses stay with you all your adult life. I have cried for her and said the Lord's Prayer for her. That seeems so insignificant after all the great memories she has given me. I hope she is with my Mom, Ruby. They would both be so pleased about that.

To the family of Jack DeBoer.  You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.  Many years ago I hired Jack to work for me at Wolohan Lumber in Greenville; not knowing it would inspire a great friendship.  Years later while selling real estate I got the previledge of being hired by Jack to sell his log cabin home in Gowen.  Although I haven't spoken to him for a few years, I can still recall the many conversations we had about our families, weight lifting and health.  He will be sadly missed and I know he had a great positive effect on many people's lives.  Just remember you now have another guardian angel watching over you from above.  God Bless!!

Terri Caniff
Caniffs, and family, I'm so sorry about the loss of such a wonderful woman. Her smile and laughter will truly be missed. She always treated me like one of her own, and I love her so much for sharing her love. Terri was a stong woman who raised strong, beautiful children. The memory and spirit of Terri will live on through her children, family, and friends. May the Lord bless her and the rays of her heavenly joy that will shine down upon us.

My deepest condolences to the family of Terri Caniff.  You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.
